NASSAU, The Bahamas – The Hon. Frankie Campbell and a delegation from the Ministry of Transport and Local Government visited Cat Island recently. While there, Junior Councilors from Arthur’s Town High School and Old Bight High School participated in a District Local Government Junior Council speech competition at the Media Centre. The theme for the competition was “Local Government, Building Communities through Partnerships, Accountability, Integrity and Productivity.” Six Junior Councilors competed for monetary prizes to assist their junior councils with community projects. The prizes, which totaled $1,600 were donated by the Cat Island Local Government District Council. Each Participant was awarded $100 for participation.
The winner of the speech competition was Erin Turner, Junior Councilor from Arthur’s Town High who won $500. Second place prize went to Kay Brown, Junior Councilor from Old Bight High who earned $300. Claiming the third place prize was Nejeeba Campbell, Junior Councilor from Old Bight High who won $200. Minister Campbell and his team viewed the students’ first undertaking while on the island. Arthur’s Town High Junior Council prepped, primed and repainted their school’s auditorium, while Old Bight High Junior Council has begun building a bus stop shelter for students.
