Correctional Officers to participate in first-of-its-kind Employee Performance Appraisal

Human Resources Personnel engaged in career development

Nassau, Bahamas – Nearly 150 Supervisors at The Bahamas Department of Correctional Services will participate in a first-of-its-kind tailored two-week workshop on Employee Performance Appraisals.  Minister Dames will open the workshop during a brief ceremony on Monday, 17th February at 9 a.m.  The workshop runs through to Friday, 28th February. 

This first-of-its-kind Employee Performance Appraisal Workshop which will take place at BDOCS, is organised by the Human Resources Department at the Ministry of National Security and was specifically designed to address and resolve the many challenges that are unique to BDOCS and routinely faced by HR personnel.

“Our goal is to build human resource capacity and enhance and improve performance management across the division,” said Mrs. Cheryl Darville, Under Secretary (Acting), Ministry of National Security.

The workshop which is divided into two sessions, Theory and Practical, will be facilitated by Mr. Delgardo Forbes, Project Manager at the Ministry of Public Works who will explore such matters as  Correlating Needs Theory to the Performance Management Process in BDOCS Environment; Examining How Employees Learn; and Exploring Bahamas Statute, Public Service Laws in Relation to Performance Management at BDOCS.

“At the end of the training workshop, Supervisors at the Department will be equipped with the tools to enhance their performance, work quality and work output lending to a strengthened performance management function within the Department,” said Mrs. Darville.

She said, “Our Ministry is about learning and translating that learning into immediate action.”

The workshop sessions will run daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
