The Ministry of Health advises that His Excellency, Sidney S. Collie, Ambassador to the United States from The Bahamas and Permanent Representative to the OAS, paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Renward R. Wells, Minister of Health today, 21st May, 2021.

Ambassador Collie was on his first home visit since being appointed as Ambassador to the United States four years ago.   He advised Minister Wells that The Bahamas had some nine (9) Consulate Offices in the United States and much of his work involved oversight of their operations.

Minister Wells provided an update on the COVID-19 situation in The Bahamas so that the Ambassador was able to give current information in international fora in which he frequently participates.   Discussions ensued regarding variants and the exploration of vaccines that could combat the effects of variants that are now being transmitted in The Bahamas.

Minister Wells informed that he was hopeful that despite the pandemic, The Bahamas would rebound economically, but strongly emphasized that progress for the future was greatly reliant on the rate at which Bahamians were vaccinated.

Both leaders discussed the Government's prospects and plans.  Noteworthy was the fact that cruise ships would be sailing in approximately three (3) months, and the importance of maintaining the COVID-19 health precautions among expected visitors.

Minister Wells thanked the Ambassador for taking time to call on his office and the Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the Minsiter's update and the commitment to remain in close contact for vaccine updates and acquisition.
