NASSAU,
The Bahamas -- The National Accounts Section of the Department of Statistics announced
on April 29, 2016 that the 2015 GDP in Current Prices had a positive growth of
2.74 percent, however the GDP in Constant Prices decreased by 1.66 percent.
Clarice Turnquest, Acting Director of the
Statistics Department said the decline at constant prices was due mainly to
decreases in the Construction, Hotel, Mining, Manufacturing Industries and
Financial Services Directly Measured (FISIM).
She added that, in
contrast, the Wholesale & Retail Trade, Banking, Real Estate, Business
Services and Public Administration & Defense Industries displayed positive
growth, which mitigated the size of the decrease.
Ms. Turnquest said the National Accounts 2015
Report with detailed tables will be available at the end of May 2016 on the
Bahamas Government website at http://www.bahamas.gov.bs/
