Freeport, Grand Bahama - The Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development is celebrating October as Older Persons Month under the theme ‘Digital Equity for All Ages.’  The announcement came at a press conference on Tuesday, October 12, at the Department of Social Services in Freeport. The intent of the month is to show appreciation for the nation’s elderly and provide them with vital information to keep them current in a digital world. Coordinators of the programme are Deputy Director Charlamae Fernander; Chief Welfare Officer, Brennamae Rolle-Cooper; and administrator of PACE, Dane Bethel-Golaz.

Activities for the month include church service on Wednesday, October 13, at Pro Cathedral of Christ the King.

Thursday, October 21, a virtual platform will be held under the theme, “It’s about Equity: The Digital World.”  Two main areas will be addressed, namely ‘Coping in this changing world of COVID-19’ and

‘Final Wishes’ dealing with how to prepare a will.

On Thursday, October 28, there will be a West to East Tour.  Seniors from all over the island of Grand Bahama will be hosted to a tour of East End. This is for those who don’t necessarily get out and will give them the opportunity to view the reconstruction of the area.     (BIS Photo/Lisa Davis)
