NASSAU, The Bahamas - Captain Stephen Russell, Director of the National Emergency Management Agency recently attended the Ninth Meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), which focused on capacity building and other issues related to comprehensive disaster management.
The annual TAC, which was held Barbados, April 16-20, 2018, is the advisory body to CDEMA on matters relating to strategies for resources for disaster management made available to Participating States, of which The Bahamas is a member.
Captain Russell was accompanied by Gayle Outten-Moncur, First Assistant Secretary and Operations Manager and Training Coordinator at NEMA.

The course was held on the margins of the Ninth Meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), held in Barbados, April 16-20, 2018.

The TAC consists of Directors of National Disasters Offices within the 18 Participating States, which makes up CDEMA.
The TAC held a two-day Capacity Building session and a three-day Business Session, during which the Caribbean Assessment Report was presented and Participating States were invited to make recommendations on how the Caribbean Disaster Management Strategy can be addressed, a panel discussion was held on the impact of Hurricane Irma and Maria, and a draft Plan of Action was presented on the 2017 Hurricane Season and Participating States readiness for the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
On the margins of the TAC meeting, participants engaged in a two-day Professional Development Course on Leadership and Budgeting. facilitated by the University of the West Indies, Caves Hill. They were each presented with a certificate upon completion.
