Nassau, Bahamas -  Minister of National Security Dr. Bernard J. Nottage  hosted a Crime Forum January 17, 2014, at the Pro Cathedral of Christ the King  under the theme "Operation: Cease Fire."

Hundreds of Grand Bahama residents turned out for the event to discuss issues and express concerns with Grand Bahama Minister Darville, Ministry of National Security Officials and Senior Officials of Law Enforcement Agencies.

“It is the duty of the Ministry of National Security to protect the citizens, residents and visitors of the shores of The Bahamas.," said Minister Nottage.

“We are here conducting this forum because we care, crime is here and we believe you the people of Grand Bahama have a few ideas and suggestions that can be utilized to favorably impact and assist us in the fight against crime in your communities and in the wider Bahamian community."

“Tonight we are listening to you as we believe you will help in providing a design that will assist us in combating crime not only in your community but throughout the nation.

“Many of you in this room have been a victim of crime in one way or the other in fact, in every forum conducted we have had previous criminal offenders who have changed their lives come forth and offer tips to us in our quest to achieve crime reduction."

“We must talk and discuss the issue of crime until people see the value of a human life, understand how to deal with conflicts and that we must work for material things that we want to have and not take that which is not our own."

“We must teach our young men that violent payback for the way back is a waste of lives, vengeance has two rules as it is not yours or mine and we must teach ourselves how to forget about old unresolved conflicts."

“Husbands and wives must understand every relationship has its challenges as neither a man or a woman owns the other whether or not they have legal documentation proving your are married because neither is a piece of land or a possession."

“There is no need for domestic violence if you feel you cannot talk, instead, just walk.”
