NEMA receives donations from BTC and The Bahamas Consulate General in New York

NASSAU, The Bahamas -- The CEO of The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Ltd. (BTC), Geoff Houston presented the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) with a cheque for $250,000 to go toward the Hurricane Irene relief programme.

The presentation was made at NEMA in the Churchill Building, Tuesday, January 3, 2012. 

Consulate General of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas in New York, Dr Rhonda Chipman-Johnson also presented a $4,135 cheque to the relief programme.  Dr. Chipman-Johnson explained that the money was collected from the Bahamians living abroad in New York.

Secretary to the Cabinet, Anita Bernard on behalf of The Bahamas Government, expressed appreciation for the donations, which will go toward the restoration of The Family Islands and the people who were impacted by the Category 3 Hurricane Irene in August 2011.
