Touching on the theme for the occasion, “Honouring Excellence in Education” Mr. Sands told the students that to be honoured for a task that you perform is a great tribute.

“It indicates that you are someone to be admired, respected and rewarded. You are someone who is pursuing excellence.

“Students, you are at a stage in your life when you must decide what you will become in the future. You must choose the path that you will follow. I believe that if you follow that path with dignity, determination and distinction, you will achieve success,” he stated.

Continuing he told those assembled that his advice to them is to first continue to display dignity.

“Have a proper sense of pride and self-respect. Present yourself with poise and decorum. Others will recognise these qualities in you and admire you for it. Secondly, I encourage you to forge ahead with determination.

“Exercise willpower and fortitude. You have made your decision about what you will do. Now, you must be ambitious and get the job done,” he told the students.

Some 138 students from schools throughout the Grand Bahama who achieved five or more BJCs (Bahamas Junior Certificate) with “C” or higher including Mathematics and English Language in one sitting were honoured for their achievements.
