Nassau, The Bahamas - The Ministry of The Environment and Housing hosted a free Reusable Shopping Bag Giveaway at Centreville Food Market on Saturday, June 8, 2019. The giveaway was in preparation of the upcoming ban on Selected Single Use Plastics to take effect on January 1, 2020. The ban on plastics will include four prohibited items: point of sale plastic shopping bags, plastic cutlery (forks, knives, spoons), plastic straws, and Styrofoam food containers and cups. Customers that day also received literature on the upcoming ban.
According to Environmental Officer Kendria Ferguson, "Bag giveaways provide an opportunity for us to engage the general public about the upcoming ban while simultaneously providing free reusable bags. We are delighted to have partnered with Aliv, who continues to be committed to corporate social responsibility."
