Nassau, The Bahamas – Senior officials of Generali Global Health Services (GGHS), Wednesday (February 20) entered into a public, private partnership (PPP) with the Department of Gender and Family Affairs that will result in four of the team members of the Department attending the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) Meeting scheduled for March 9-22 (2019) at the United Nations in New York, USA.
Minister or Social Services and Urban Development, the Hon. Frankie A. Campbell, said the partnership is part of the Ministry’s plan to build greater capacity amongst staff of the ministry and its Departments and Divisions at the national, regional and international levels.
“The exposure to critical, international, regional and national training opportunities is part of my Ministry’s plan for greater capacity-building throughout the Ministry, the Department of Gender and Family Affairs, the Department of Social Services, the Department of Rehabilitative and Welfare Services and the Urban Renewal Commission,” Minister Campbell said.
“The team members’ attendance at CSW, the experience and training they will receive, and the exposure to some of the international best practices and training available, will enable them to produce for us the kind of services we need to serve our wider clientele.”
Ms. Tina Cambridge, Regional Director, Generali Global Health Services and Ms. Sherelle Johnson, Business Development Manager, GGHS, met with Minister Campbell, Dr. Jacinta Higgs, Director, Department of Gender and Family Affairs and members of the team.
The partnership between Generali is in accordance with Goal 17 of the United Nation’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs, 2030), which promotes public private partnerships (PPPs) as a means of ensuring progress across multiple goals. The partnerships involve central and local government, businesses, civil society and academia.
The objective uses multi-stakeholder partnerships that mobilize and share knowledge, expertise, technology and financial resources to support the achievement of the SDGs, especially in Developing Countries such as The Bahamas. There are 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development in all, among them, Good Health, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Renewable Energy, No Poverty, No Hunger, Clean Water and Sanitation, Good Jobs and Economic Growth, Peace and Justice, and Innovation and Infrastructure, among others.
“I have found that, Generali Global Health Services, as a company, has a good, corporate spirit in terms of their willingness to give back to the community they serve. They have sponsored a number of projects in the past without any fanfare. This is an opportunity for them to continue their civic-mindedness as a corporate entity and for us to benefit and pass those benefits on,” Minister Campbell added.

Ms. Johnson said providing financial support to assist the team members of the Department of Gender and Family Affairs to attend the United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women was part of the company’s recognition “of the importance of ensuring gender equality especially for women, and belief that the selected delegates shall return home better equipped to render assistance and have a positive impact on our fellow Bahamians.”
