Nassau, The Bahamas - Winston Gaitor, pictured centre, looks forward to being in the Winner's Circle again in the 2019 Geriatric Hospital 8th Annual Pushathon, on Saturday, April 27, 2019.  He discussed the upcoming event at a press conference at Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre, January 29, 2019 along with his grandson, Kyle, left, and Dr. Indira Grimes, chairperson.  Mr. Gaitor, with his usual enthusiasm described the races, and noted that in the past, grandson Kyle has provided the physical power behind his wheelchair to propel him to his pushathon 'three-peat win' -- with coaching as to "when to speed up, when to slow down, and when to relax."  Registration begins at 5:30 a.m. and races at 6:30 a.m. for this year's pushathon, billed the 'Winston Gaitor Pushathon' under the theme, "Ready, Steady, Push for Active Aging."

Early registration deadline is April 5, 2019.

The pushathon will assist with fundraising for the Geriatric Hospital's Entertainment-Social Lawn.  In 2014, Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre embarked on a Therapeutic Lawn Project to transform vacant green spaces throughout the compound into therapeutic environments to benefit clients emotionally, intellectually, socially and physically.  The Entertainment-Social Lawn is the third phase of the project.

The Push/Walk starting point will be Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre, and it will continue south on Fox Hill Road, then east on Yamacraw Road, north through Elizabeth Estates, west on Prince Charles Drive, south on Fox Hill Road, and then back to the starting point.  The Running Route -- Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre - Fox Hill Road - Yamacraw - Yamacraw Hill Road beach - Prince Charles Drive - Fox Hill Road to the starting point.  Those who complete the entire route will be eligible for 1st to 3rd prizes in their categories.  (BIS Photo/Patrick Hanna)
