Bahamas 39th Independence Celebrations to be held in Florida, Saturday, July 14th

The Bahamas Consulate General, in conjunction with the City of West Park and KP Productions, will host an Independence Goombay Family Fun Day on Saturday, 14 July, 2012 at McTyre Park, 3501 SW 56th Avenue, City of West Park, Florida.
            
The Family Fun Day which will open to the general public from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m, is designed to provide an opportunity to promote Bahamian culture in a festive, clean and safe environment.  The purpose of the event is to expose the people of South Florida to “all things Bahamian” including arts and craft items, cuisine and Junkanoo. Activities for the day will include the Bounce Castle, Face Painting and live DJ.  The major attraction of the day is the Junkanoo competition where cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners.  The Junkanoo competition will consist of groups made up of 20 persons or more but no more than 40.  Judging for the Junkanoo will be based on organization, presentation and performance.
            
On Friday, 6 July, 2012 - Bahamian Gospel Artist out of Freeport, Grand Bahama, Simeon Outten hosted an outstanding gospel concert at the Sure Foundation Ministries in West Park, Florida.  Other artists included Mr. Washington Williams of the Cooling Waters, Nigel Lewis, Ricardo Clarke and Demetrius Stubbs.
            
Friday, 13 July, the Royal Bahamas Police Force Pop Band will serenade the crowd at Palm Gardens Club, Miami Gardens, Fl. and on Sunday, 15 July, the 39th Anniversary of Independence Church Service and Reception will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the New Mount Olive Baptist Church, 400 NW 9th Ave, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.  Guest Speaker will be Rev. Angela Palacious, Anglican Hospital-Chaplain.  Special recognition will be given to Rev. Canon Richard L. Marquess-Barry of The Historic St. Agnes Episcopal Church in Miami, Fl., Mr. John A.T. Roker of the New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. and Mr. James Moss, Founder of the Bahamas American Federation.
