NASSAU, Bahamas - Governor General Her Excellency Dame Marguerite Pindling; Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Hubert A. Minnis and other Cabinet Ministers attended the funeral service of Mr. Basil L. Sands father of Minister of Health, Dr. the Hon Duane Sands who spoke. The service was held at Christ Church Cathedral, Friday July 27, 2018.
As one of the country’s first black chartered accountants, Sands served for many years as the Treasurer of the Anglican Diocese of the Bahamas. He was appointed by the Japanese Government as Honorary Consul for Japan to The Bahamas. He served in that position for 26 years and was awarded Japan’s “Order of the Sacred Treasure” in 1993.
