FREEPORT, The Bahamas - In an effort to assist Grand Bahamian fishermen who suffered great loss during Hurricane Matthew in October of 2016, the Ministry for Grand Bahama, headed by the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, Minister for Grand Bahama, presented coupons to a number of local fishermen on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

Making the presentation on behalf of the Minister was Permanent Secretary in the Ministry for Grand Bahama Melvin Seymour, who stated: “The government is very happy to be able to present you with these coupons, which will help to recoup some of your losses, not all of them, because we cannot replace all that you have lost,” said Mr. Seymour.  “It is our hope that with these coupons you would be able to get back into business within the shortest possible time.”

Assisting the Ministry in identifying and contacting the local fishermen was Clement Campbell, from the Department of Fisheries in Grand Bahama. The coupons are redeemable at OBS Marine, Cash Marine and Long’s Marine. On hand to assist the Permanent Secretary with the distribution of the coupons to the local fishermen were Senior Under Secretary in the Ministry for Grand Bahama Harcourt Brown, Administrator for the City of Freeport Preston Cunningham, and Mr. Campbell.
