Grand Bahama Junior Junkanoo Groups Receive Seed Funding for the January 23 Parade

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – Schools in Grand Bahama received their seed money during a press conference on Wednesday at the Ministry for Grand Bahama, for the much-anticipated 17th Annual Junior Junkanoo Parade, scheduled for January 23, 2016 at 5pm.

The cheques were presented by the Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, on behalf of the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Dr. Daniel Johnson.

Twenty-seven schools from Grand Bahama and Bimini will be participating.

Minister Darville thanked the Grand Bahama Junkanoo Committee, representatives from Local Government, Principals, teachers, parents and all those who actively participate in making the parade a success.

He said he was pleased with the creativity, choreography and music of last year's parade.

Encouraging all residents to attend, the Minister reminded the public that the parade this year is absolutely free of charge.

Schools participating are: Pre-school Division -- East End Pre-school (McClean’s Town), West End Pre-school, National Academy Pre-school, Letty’s Paradise Pre-school, St. John’s Native Baptist Academy, Rising Stars Christian Academy, Martin Town Pre-school, and Growing Years Pre-school; Primary Division -- Maurice Moore Primary, Freeport Primary, Walter Parker Primary, Bartlett Hill Primary, Martin Town Primary, West End Primary, and Hugh Campbell Primary; All-Age Division -- Bishop Michael Eldon School, Sunland Baptist Academy, Lucayan International School, Tabernacle Baptist Academy, The Beacon School, and Bimini All-Age School; Junior High Division has a single entrant of Jack Hayward Junior High School; and in the Secondary Division -- Eight Mile Rock High School, St. George’s High School, Total Educational Centre and Jack Hayward High School.
