Grand Bahama student Samaiya Lundy brings home top honours

Freeport, Bahamas – The Hon. Dr. Michael Darville, Minister for Grand Bahama, was at Grand Bahama International Airport on Sunday to welcome home Samaiya Lundy, the 2015 Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year, along with other students who participated in the completion held last weekend. Samaiya, a student of Sunland Baptist Academy, was also welcomed by her parents, Mark and Shantell Lundy; the school's benefactor, Bishop Godfrey Williams; the school's principal, Myrton King; coach, Bonnie Basden and teacher, Denise Minnis. Deputy leader of the official opposition, K. Peter Turnquest, was also present. As the winner, Samaiya was presented with a $6,000 scholarship from Royal Bank of Canada. There were 121 participants in the competition, with 15 from Grand Bahama. Minister Darville is seen with Samaiya, along with other students from schools in Grand Bahama, family and friends.
