Bahamas Hurricane Shelters Available for Use as of 8th November 2015

NASSAU, The Bahamas – The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has issued a new listing of Hurricane Shelters designated for Islands in the Central and Southeast Bahamas, in the event a tropical storm warning is issued.

Tropical storms bring damaging winds and heavy rains, which cause flooding in low-lying areas.

The islands being monitored are Acklins, Crooked Island, Long Cay, Samana Cay, Ragged Island, Rum Cay, San Salvador, Mayaguana, Inagua, Long Island, The Exumas and Cat Island.

Some of these areas were recently impacted by the Category 4 Hurricane Joaquin.
