Over 400 accountants from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and the Caribbean are expected to arrive in Nassau come June for the 36th Institute of Chartered Accountants Caribbean’s (ICAC) Conference of Accountants.

The much-anticipated conclave, which is expected to stimulate the Meetings Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) aspect of tourism, will be held June 21-23 at Atlantis Paradise Island.

This will be the fourth time The Islands of The Bahamas has hosted the event, having previously hosted in 1992, 2002 and 2010.

Deputy Director General at the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation Ellison ‘Tommy’ Thompson said the country has seen the benefits.

He also implored executives of the conference to bring more conferences to The Bahamas.

“We know that the group and conference business is big for The Bahamas and if you have any other conferences feel free to bring them here. We have great facilities here, the infrastructure is wonderful and the technical assistance that you can get in The Bahamas is wonderful,” he said.

Vice President of Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) International Canada Nancy Foran said many accountants are excited to escape cold temperatures to visit the Islands of The Bahamas.

“If coming to The Bahamas is not exciting enough to raise the excitement in our profession, then the changes that we are going to see will. There are so many exciting topics and perspectives that we can’t wait to hear. CPA is delighted to be a sponsor this year, participate in all the extra-curricular activities. Having been to one of the prior conferences in The Bahamas I can almost guarantee that it is going to be a really, really great time with wonderful warmth and hospitality like nowhere else,” she said.

The ICAC is the leading regional organization dedicated to advancing the interest of accountants and professionals in the finance industry within the Caribbean through the promotion of internationally acceptable standards.

The ICAC includes a network of 4,000 professionals throughout the Caribbean.

In The Bahamas, there are 515 accountants represented by the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA).
