Minister Campbell gives support to ‘She Ready’ Theme; calls on women to resist going from one extreme to the next

Nassau, The Bahamas - Minister of Social Services and Urban Development, the Hon. Frankie A. Campbell, told a gathering of women attending the first Women’s United Empowerment Summit hosted by the Political Subdivision of Women United, that it was his belief that women of The Bahamas are indeed ready to embrace and overcome the challenges that have hindered them from assuming political leadership in the numbers they desire.
“You would agree that it will take a collaborative effort to accomplish these goals. It will take persistence and creativity to diminish the stereotypical beliefs of the roles that women should play with respect to holding leadership positions,” Minister Campbell said. “By engaging women of all ages and from different spheres of society, and continually building on the experiences of many of the many matriarchs and trailblazers, the issues of women’s struggles with the economic, social and political concern will be addressed.”
Expanding on the Summit’s theme: “She Ready: Women Arise!” Minister Campbell said the theme was “a quite timely one.”
“I do believe that the women of The Bahamas are indeed ready; ready to embrace, and ready to overcome the challenges that have hindered you from assuming political leadership in the numbers you desire to see.”
Minister Campbell had this recommendation to the females in attendance.
“It is my prayer that as we ensure that the women get all and every opportunity, that we take time to ensure that we do not go from one extreme to the other. We are talking here about partnerships, so let us ensure, that as we empower our women, we bring along the men with whom you intend to partner.”
Held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church Hall, Monday’s Summit was a collaboration between Women’s United, it’s Political Subcommittee headed by Mrs. Sharmie Farrington-Austin, and the Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development and its Department of Gender and Family Affairs. The Ministry of Social Services and Urban Development provided sponsorship for the summit.
“I acknowledge and congratulate the members of Women United, and in particular the Political Subcommittee for organizing this forum,” Minister Campbell told his audience. “I am proud of the work of Women United – a group of passionate, committed and professional women who believe that the time is now for women to take up the mantle from the Suffragists and stand together for the achievement of women’s social, intellectual, political and economic empowerment.
“I am pleased to be here among so many honourable female leaders – indeed, you are the backbone of our nation so at the outset let me salute you,” Minister Campbell added.
