Nassau, The Bahamas – Minister of National Security the Hon. Marvin H. Dames is pictured with with pertinent stakeholders, during the official launch of a National Thanksgiving luncheon, at United Faith Ministries International, on Fire Trail Road, November 26, 2020.  The Ministry of National Security’s National Neighborhood Watch Council (NNWC) had partnered with a number of churches, corporate sponsors and non-governmental agencies throughout the country to host the luncheon, with a goal of feeding more than 5,000 people, under the theme “Somebody Touch Somebody’s Hand, Helping People, Changing Lives”.  According to the Ministry, Thanksgiving meals were packaged and delivered directly to the homes of thousands of senior citizens, children, the sick and shut- in, in all 11 Districts of New Providence, and districts Eleuthera, Abaco, and Grand Bahama, by members of the Council, the Police Liaison Officers and Neighborhood Watch Officers.

Also partnering in the initiative was Christ the King Anglican Church, Ridgeland Park West, where, according to the Ministry, hundreds of meals were prepared by the South Central District Council members, church member volunteers and police liaison officers for distribution throughout eight of the 11 districts in New Providence.  The National Thanksgiving Luncheon is part of the “We Are One” National campaign, launched earlier this month.

The campaign is geared towards bringing healing and unity among the Bahamian people in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and runs through to December, with residents in communities throughout The Bahamas participating in the much anticipated twelve days of Christmas celebrations.
