Minister Dames Surveys National Security Interests in Abaco

MARSH HARBOUR, Abaco, The Bahamas - Minister of National Security the Hon. Marvin Dames led a delegation to Abaco, on September 30, 2019, meeting with uniformed officers and Government officials there, especially those under the remit of his Ministry.

During his visit he interacted with Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Central and South Abaco James Albury; Captain Philip Clarke and Lieutenant Commander Kenneth Forbes of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF); Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for the Northern Bahamas District Samuel Butler; Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Rolle; Mrs. Patricia Minnis, Office of the Spouse of the Prime Minister; Hurricane Relief and Redevelopment Co-coordinator for Abaco Jack Thompson; Royal Bahamas Defence and Police Force officers; international and local aid agencies representatives; local community leaders and Abaco residents.

Minister Dames was keynote speaker at a Community Meeting in Dundas Town, at the Friendship Tabernacle Church. He also viewed damage to National Security property and the old police station in Marsh Harbour; visited the temporary bridge site at Little Abaco; and got an overview of National Security operations at the port in Marsh Harbour.  While at the port, he spoke with a number of RBDF officers stationed there at that time, including Senior Lieutenant Samantha Hart, who became the first female Commanding Officer of a 33-meter class vessel, over a year ago.

Also among those also on Abaco with Minister Dames were Acting Permanent Secretary Eugene Poitier, Deputy Permanent Secretary Dawn Culmer, and Superintendent of Police Shanta Knowles.   (BIS Photos / Eric Rose)
