FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – Minister for Grand Bahama the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville welcomed members of the Grand Bahama Secondary School Athletic Association, principals, coaches and students of the Sandra Edgecombe 2015 Sports of Champions, January 28, in a courtesy call at the Ministry.

The Minister noted, “the rich history of athletics on Grand Bahama is steeped in the annals of time. Grand Bahama has produced a number of world-class athletes.  I believe firmly we ought to continue and even surpass these successes, and that we must recognize potential and capabilities in a young person from the very onset of schooling; once recognized, a young athlete can be nurtured and groomed in order to excel in his or her chosen sport discipline.”

He commended Kenton Rolle and Oswald Simmons for their work, and congratulated the Stingers, the Hornets, and the Falcons, who are the 2015 class of champions.

In closing he said: “As Minister for Grand Bahama, I pledge my continued support to the Grand Bahama Secondary Schools Athletics, as you continue to provide positive outlets for the youth and further develop sports on Grand Bahama Island.”
