Nassau, Bahamas - In an auditorium packed with students, Minister of Education, the Hon. Desmond Bannister, sang the praises of outstanding students for the year 2010-2011. Minister Bannister delivered the keynote address at the Annual National Awards Presentation and Exhibition held on Thursday, January 20 at the Church of God Auditorium.
“One of the major goals of the Ministry of Education’s Annual Awards Presentation and Exhibition is to highlight the performance of students in our national examinations – the Bahamas Junior Certificate (BJC) and the Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE),” said Mr. Bannister. “It is when we applaud the outstanding strides many students take in their academic pursuits that we motivate them to continue to transform themselves.”

Mr. Bannister thanked the students and he encouraged those who were not as successful. He told them to continue to be positive and to keep focused on their goals. “Everyone in here today is a success. You may not have been as successful in your examinations as others but continue to strive for excellence and it will pay off in the long run.”
Three students achieving the award for ‘Independent school candidate with overall best BGCSE results for the year 2010 (8 A’s) were: Miguel Cartwright (Queen’s College); Dante Delaney (Bahamas Home Schooling Association, N. P.) and Abhishek Jacob (St. Augustine’s College). Tamara Robins (C. R. Walker Senior High) received the award for the Government School Candidate with overall best BGCSE results with 7 A’s and 1 B.
For the BJC examinations, Davina Adderley (North Long Island) received the award for 2010 Government School candidate with Best BJC Results with 9 A’s; Sheryl Evans (Temple Christian Schools) received the award for 2010 Independent School Candidate with Best BJC results with 7 A’s and 1 B. Two young men received Best overall BJC performance by a male in a government school and they were John Cartwright (N. G. M. Major High School, Long Island) with 7 A’s and Rajahl Moxey (H. O. Nash High) with 7 A’s. The award for the Candidate with overall best BJC results in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas was Davina Adderley.
Following the presentation of awards, Mr. Bannister officially opened the exhibition.
