Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets with UN Special Rapporteur for Violence Against Women

Dr. Dubravka Šimonovic, UN Special Rapporteur, and the Hon. Darren Henfield, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Nassau, The Bahamas - Minister of Foreign Affairs the Hon. Darren Henfield met with United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, Dr. Dubravka Šimonović.  

During the meeting, they discussed several matters including the role of government in ending gender-based violence, and promoting gender equality in the framework of the CEDAW (Committee on Ending the Discrimination Against Women ) General Recommendation No. 35.   Moreover, Dr. Simonovic remarked upon several legislative changes that can be implemented in accordance with Recommendation 35 to protect the well-being of women in the country.  

Minister Henfield assured the Special Rapporteur of The Bahamas' Government's strong commitment to gender equality.
