NASSAU, The Bahamas - Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Lanisha Rolle held a round-table meeting for New Providence Junkanoo leaders, on November 8, 2018, at the British Colonial Hilton. Also taking part in the meeting were Acting Permanent Secretary Rhoda Jackson, Director of Culture Rowena Poitier-Sutherland and Deputy Director Dereka Deleveaux-Grant, Co-Chairs of the National Junkanoo Committee Dr. Dwight Marshall and Kishlane O’Brien, Chairman of the Junkanoo Corporation of New Providence Silbert Ferguson, various Ministry staff members and selected group representatives. Among the various topics discussed included ways to encourage Junkanoo groups to be more self-sustained, the development of the roles of young people and scholarships in each group, the strengthening of the administrative arms of groups, the importance of communication with the Ministry, and the establishment of community bases in the neighbourhoods the groups represent.
