Ministry of Education receives tablets from Baha Mar

Nassau, The Bahamas – The Ministry of Education (MOE) accepted the gift of 1,000 tablets – from Baha Mar Resort Foundation and Tropical Shipping -- the single largest donation of devices for public school students to date.
“There was a firm commitment with the hotel of 1,000 devices for the MOE,” said the Hon. Jeffrey Lloyd, Minister of Education.
He commended Baha Mar, the first corporate citizen to reach out to the MOE, for the outstanding offer.
Ministry officials including Lorraine Armbrister, Permanent Secretary; Greta Brown, Principal at C H Reeves, along with representatives of the resort led by Robert Sands, Sr. Vice President Government Affairs, Baha Mar were present at the brief ceremony which took place in the foyer of the MOE.
Accepting the tablets and extending thanks on behalf of the students, Dr. Marcellus Taylor, Director of Education, said the tablets provide students with access to provide quality education.
He commended the resort for its leadership, generosity and commitment to helping the MOE.
“Your leadership is showing people that we have to always consider how we help others. The hotel is closed but you still prioritize the importance of helping others.”
“We believe that while it is important in combating the spread and reviving the economy within The Bahamas, we cannot lose sight of the future,” said Mr. Sands.
“The future is our children. We believe that it is important more than ever to provide Bahamian youth with a solid educational foundation and skills for the times to come.”
