Nassau, Bahamas - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources are aware that there is a voice note circulating in social media related to fishing and the use of the ocean in the south eastern Bahamas, which claims that there are foreign entities that have made threats against the lives of Bahamians, specifically fishermen.  The speaker purportedly indicates that there are links to Al Qaeda.

The Bahamas takes seriously all threats on the lives of Bahamian citizens and their livelihood.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has alerted the relevant authorities, locally and internationally, and is working with all concerned to address the alleged threats against Bahamian nationals.

The Ministry urges all Bahamians, in particular those in the fishing sector, to exercise due care and caution in their daily routine and to report immediately to the authorities any events that appear to be suspicious.
