Nassau, Bahamas - After a three-year delay, including the set back as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the new Revive Academy is set to commence. The program is being offered by The Ministry of National Security via its Citizens Security & Justice Program (CSJP) and is being offered to unemployed and at-risk youths in the age range of 15-29 years.

It will focus on four core areas including: soft skills, numeracy and literacy development, hospitality and retail training as well as technical trade’s development.

The CSJP has partnered with the Bahamas Technical & Vocational Institute (BTVI) and the University of the Bahamas (UB) to facilitate the required training. A webinar was held on Friday, 30th October to launch the program.

Minister of National Security Hon. Marvin delivered opening remarks. He explained that research has shown that crime can be significantly reduced with the implementation of high quality educational experiences. He also said that the government fully supports the program and encouraged Bahamian youths to enrol and participate to the best of their ability.

“The country is facing unprecedented challenges as a result of the pandemic,” he said. “Youths are looking for hope and want to be ready for the new norm. Revive Academy is a conduit created to meet this challenge. You will only get out of it what you put into it so I encourage you to apply yourselves fully, give your best and learn from your instructors and let them learn from you.”

The initiative is being offered via a collaboration of nine agencies including the Ministry of National Security, The Department of Labour, The Office of the Attorney General, The Judiciary, Ministry of Education, Department of Correctional Services and Ministry of Social Services.

The Citizen Security and Justice Program is one of the country’s leading social programs that aims to reduce crime and violence with a multi-faceted approach targeting youth and community development, employment and employ-ability, strengthening the Justice system and prison reform.

The CSJP is funded by a $20 million loan facility from the Inter-American Development Bank to the Government of The Bahamas and is executed under the Ministry of National Security.
