The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture extends congratulations to Mike Sands on his monumental achievement on becoming the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Regional President for athletics.  In so doing, Mr. Sands will automatically ascend to a seat on the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) Council, the global governing body for the sport of athletics.  Elections for the Presidency were held Tuesday 2 July, 2019 at the NACAC Congress in Queretaro, Mexico.

As a former 400m national record holder, an Olympian, former President of the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) and serving Council Member, and former Vice President of the Bahamas Olympic Committee, Mr. Sands possesses an extensive and accomplished background in athletics and sports administration.

We believe Mr. Sands is uniquely qualified for this prestigious and important position, and that it is an appropriate natural progression of his past executive positions. Further, over the years, Mr. Sands has devoted himself, not only to the development of athletics, but also to sports in general.

As President of NACAC, Mr. Sands will now be responsible for the continued development of athletics throughout North America, Central America, and the Caribbean region.  We wish him every success in this esteemed role.
