Flood Safety Instructions
BEFORE THE FLOOD
Identify the nearest safe area, be sure that your battery powered radio, flash· lights and emergency cooking equipment is working, fuel your car, put your first aid kit together and waterproof your home using sandbags and other materials.
FLOOD WARNING
If you have received a flood warning, elevate your essential items as best as pos· sible, leave home to move to a safe area before access is cut off by flood water and turn off all electricity at the fuse panel and shut off the water service and gas valves in your home.
DURING THE FLOOD
Avoid flood prone areas, do not cross flowing streams where the water is above your knees, do not drive over flooded roads and if your vehicle stalls, abandon it immediately and seek higher ground.
AFTER THE FLOOD
Stay tuned to your radio or television for updates and instructions, do not eat or drink anything that has come in contact with flood water, do not visit the disaster area, do not handle electrical equipment and report broken utility lines to police, fire or other appropriate authorities .
