NASSAU, The Bahamas - The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Monday, October 6, relocated to its headquarters on Gladstone Road, which was damaged by fire almost one year ago.

On Friday, November 22, 2013, fire erupted at the newly built facility, which was severely damaged by smoke and water. As a result, the staff was housed at its former offices on the first floor of the Churchill Building, downtown Nassau, until repairs to the state-of-the-art facility were completed.

The NEMA building was built at an estimated $1.7million. It also houses a modern National Emergency Operations Centre, amongst other amenities to accommodate the national disaster committee in the event the country is faced with a disaster.

NEMA first moved into its building on August 23, 2013 just around the anniversary of the Category 5 Hurricane Andrew, which struck The Bahamas and caused millions in damage and four related deaths in 1992.

The public is asked to contact NEMA at: (242) 322-6081/5. Email: nema@bahamas.gov.bs or NEMAbahamas242@gmail.com, should a disaster occur.
