Nassau, The Bahamas — The National Health Insurance (NHI) Secretariat will be travelling to the Family Islands throughout the month of June, continuing to host town halls and speaking with residents.
These meetings are designed to educate and engage residents about the modern, affordable and accessible healthcare system that NHI aims to deliver for Bahamians. Included in the list of presenters from the NHI Secretariat are Permanent Secretary Peter Deveaux-Isaacs; Dr. Delon Brennen, NHI Project Manager; Dr. Kevin Bowe, NIB Deputy Director, NHI & Special Projects; Ms. Catherine Weech, Hospital Administrator and NHI Health System Strengthening Consultant; and Ms. Damara Dillett, NHI Legal Consultant.
“We have had an extremely busy beginning of the year. The NHI Secretariat has held 22 town halls, presented to over 25 organisations, churches and NGOs, and met with large number of key stakeholders. We’re excited to continue travelling to the Family Islands and meeting with Bahamians,” said Permanent Secretary Deveaux-Isaacs. “Comments from Bahamians have been very positive thus far and they are very engaged with this important issue. NHI Bahamas will provide all legal Bahamian residents with access to affordable health care, and that is why we want to try and speak personally to as many persons as possible.”
All residents are encouraged to attend meetings in their communities to become more informed about NHI Bahamas and the benefits of the programme, once it is implemented.
