Bahamas National Insurance Marks 40 Years This Week

Nassau, Bahamas - ‘National Insurance Week,’ October
5 to 11. Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Perry
Christie addressed the launch church service at Evangelistic Temple, Collins
Avenue, on Sunday morning, commemorating the decades of service of the board in
enhancing the financial well-being of Bahamians.
To the theme, “Reinforcing
the Foundation Pillars of the Modern Bahamas” the board will celebrate with activities
planned for the week including Graduation of New Inspectors on Monday, Cake
Cutting at the Headquarters on Tuesday, and Feeding of the Elderly on
Wednesday.
The National Insurance Board officially
opened its doors for the first time on October 7, 1974 with the mission to
administrate the country’s social security programme comprising income
replacement assistance in times of sickness, invalidity, maternity, retirement,
death, industrial injury/disease, and involuntary loss of income. In addition NIB was mandated to provide assistance
to the needy and play a role the country’s social and infrastructural
development.
