It is announced by Cabinet Office that Her Excellency the
Governor General, acting on the recommendation of the Prime Minister after
consultation with the Leader of the Opposition, has appointed the Honourable
Senior Justice Hartman Longley to be the new Chief Justice of the Commonwealth
of The Bahamas with effect from February 1st, 2015.
Mr. Longley is presently Senior Justice of the Bahamas
Supreme Court and a former Justice of the Bahamas Court of Appeal. He succeeds Sir Michael Barnett who will
demit office as Chief Justice on January 31st, 2015.
The new Chief Justice will be sworn in at a formal ceremony
at Government House on Monday morning at 10am.
