Nassau, The Bahamas - The Hon. Desmond Bannister, Minister of Public Works and the Hon. Adrian Gibson, Chairman, Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) led the team of executives who participated in the ribbon cutting exercise to officially mark the opening of the Corporation’s Customer Service Department in the Mall at Marathon.

Members of the board, representatives of the executive team, employees of WSC and customers were on hand to participate in and witness the occasion. The ceremony was held in the Mall at Marathon just outside the WSC location which is situated across from John Bull.

Five employees are responsible for running the new office which is open from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. The Mall location offers similar services as the WSC headquarters on University Drive including bill queries, payments, new water and sewer connections, financial arrangements, rebates, change of ownership, tenant agreements, reconnection of supplies, sewer inspection, leaks and rusty water.

WSC previously operated a customer service department at the Mall at Marathon, which was shared with another utility company.

In his remarks, Minister Bannister commended the Corporation for bringing the location ‘back to the people’ where Bahamians can have easy access and the level of service that is expected from the Corporation.

Minister Bannister commended the employees for the tremendous progress made in recent times and encouraged them to provide excellent service to their customers.

He implored them to consider the progress as a stepping stone and not a final destination as the Corporation still has a long way to go.

“I am confident that with the leadership that you have that you are going to continue to show positive inroads.

“We anticipate that the hallmark of what you do here is going to be excellence in the service that you provide to our people. It does not matter who comes in here; they are to be treated like the Bahamian kings and queens that they are,” he added.

Mr. Gibson said today’s opening, coupled with recruitment, training, roving teams and payment plans will all lead to WSC improving its operations.

He acknowledged the hardworking, dedicated staff of WSC for their efforts.

He said it is expected that the five employees at this location would give the highest level of quality service to customers.

“We feel that the decision to open at the mall location was both wise and prudent. As we restructure and retool, our overarching goal is to run WSC like a business imbuing a corporate culture striving for profitability,” he said.
