PAHO/WHO Director On First Official Visit to The Bahamas

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Regional Director for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Carissa F. Etienne, was hosted at a luncheon at Graycliff on Thursday, attended by Ministry of Health Officials and members of the medical community.  Dr. Etienne is on her First Official Visit to The Bahamas, July 15-17.

Her itinerary includes a Reception on Thursday at The Balmoral Club at which there will be a presentation to the Minister of Health to ‘Celebrate the Elimination of Measles’ and presentation of a certificate to Deputy Chief Medical Officer for the ‘Edmundo Granda Ugalde Leaders in International Health Program (LHIP)’ completed with distinction.

On Friday, there will be a Technical Breakfast at Atlantis; Visit to the Critical Care Block, Princess Margaret Hospital, to include Public Hospitals Authority briefing on the structure of secondary and tertiary health care; mid-day Press Conference; and Visit to South Beach Health Centre, Primary Health Care Clinic, that will include briefing on the structure of primary care in the Department of Public Health, the relationship to Family Medicine Programme at the Public Hospitals Authority, and the referral process to secondary and tertiary care.
