Nassau, The Bahamas -- Prime Minister and Minister of Finance the Rt. Hon. Perry Christie speaks at the 19th Urban Renewal 2.0 Programme Community Upliftment Service, held on Windsor Park, April 12, 2017.   Prime Minister Christie commended the Urban Renewal initiative and said that The Bahamas must have similar programmes that address the disadvantaged.

"The programme of Urban Renewal was designed to go into the communities and find and search out the problems and the challenges of the community, and to fix those problems wherever they find them," Prime Minister Christie said.  "I am so happy because I made a decision that I did not want to make this a political programme.  I wanted them to come as members of the community -- shoulder to shoulder, PLP to FNM, it made no difference -- to be able to see the goodness of the programme that was intended to uplift a community." The Urban Renewal Commission has held community upliftment services in New Providence on Wednesdays to offer encouragement since the impact of Hurricane Matthew.  Care packages of basic food provisions are provided at each service.
