PM Christie Heralds 'Great Things' Coming Soon for The Bahamas

NASSAU, The Bahamas – At a Service of Thanksgiving and Praise in Celebration of the 4th Anniversary of Governance, Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Perry Christie on Sunday told the congregation at New Destiny Baptist Church that there are plans in the works for The Bahamas, especially in terms of development in the very near future.
"This is the fourth anniversary of my government and I will be able to herald to the country [that] we are in great shape, heading in the right direction, and all throughout this country -- whether its Bimini, whether it's Abaco, whether it's Eleuthera, whether it's San Salvador, whether it's Exuma -- you are going to find that we are ushering in unparalleled development," Prime Minister Christie said.
"That ain't no talk," he added in the vernacular. "That will happen."
High among the various points that he commented on, Prime Minister Christie vocalized his views on the moral obligation of National Insurance and its implementation, especially when it comes to the needs of the Bahamians who need it most.
"This country cannot be run by the discretion of people selecting a privileged few to do things for;" he said; "and I don’t care how you think about this -- think about your children, and their children. Think about the kind of country you live in and come to understand that every day that go without being insured is a day when you are risking having a disease that you cannot conquer."
Prime Minister Christie added that the church has an important role to play in Bahamian society and that a belief system is an integral part of his life.
"My mummy used to tell me about faith, and it's personal to each one of us," Prime Minister said. "I speak often of the fact that I quote verses from the Bible not so that I can show people that I can memorize them, but as I struggle with my faith and human imperfections, I'm testing the words [for inspiration]."
Also during the church service, Prime Minister Christie alluded to his upcoming communication on the Budget Debate, in the House of Assembly on Wednesday, May 25.
"I am going to thank God particularly because you will hear me say to the country what we've been able to do. And what we've been able to do -- if I had to say so myself -- should be well received by the people of this country because it will be, I think, significant if not great works that are now taking place in our country," he said.
"I don’t want to go further than that because some big things are in the making over the next 48 hours and I just want to be able to say (thank) God."
Prime Minister Christie stated that it is not just up to The Government, but all Bahamians have a role to play in the future greatness of The Bahamas.
"We must do all of these things together as a people," he said. "I will tell you on Wednesday I am satisfied that we are on the road to becoming the best small country in the entire world."
