Nassau, Bahamas - Enclosed are remarks by The Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie
Prime Minister at Official Contract Signing Ceremony; Maternity Ward,
Male Surgical Wards & Legacy Entrance Renovation Princess Margaret
Hospital on 28th September:
On Monday of this week, I was privileged to be at the rand
memorial hospital in Freeport, Grand Bahama, as we publically announced the
execution of agreements that would facilitate a major expansion and renovation
of that hospital. Today, I am pleased to join with the Ministry Of Health And
Public Hospitals Authority once again, as we publically, and formally execute
an agreement with respect to significant improvements here at the iconic
Princess Margaret Hospital.
Originally constructed in 1952, the main campus of the
Princess Margaret Hospital is an aging facility with mechanical, engineering
and plumbing infrastructure that no longer complies with modern standards for
patient care. Indeed, through the course of more than six decades, our nation’s
oldest and largest Public Hospital has provided stellar service to the people
of the Commonwealth Of The Bahamas; however, inevitably the wear and tear
related to heavy utilization, and the changing standards of modern hospital
care over time, have demanded that significant upgrades and renovations be
undertaken.
I am, therefore, very pleased to announce to the Bahamian
people that by the end of October, 2016, the Public Hospitals Authority will be
in receipt of the master plan to guide the way forward for the total
redevelopment of the Princess Margaret Hospital on this present site...
