NASSAU, The Bahamas – Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Hubert A. Minnis Wednesday applauded the church community in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas for its commitment to ministering to the poor, the sick, the indigent, the lonely, the depressed and those suffering from various addictions.
Prime Minister Minnis said the church “is a great community harvest which gives witness to God’s Love and the life and the ministry of Jesus Christ.”
“This community harvest is an overflowing harvest of the generosity, empathy and love of the many thousands of volunteers in The Bahamas who serve their communities in ways known and unknown,” Prime Minister Minnis said.
“I think of the social outreach programes and the spiritual healing provided by many churches in our country, and I think of the children, the youth and family ministries which help in the spiritual growth of our people.”
Addressing the Church of God of Prophecy’s Bi-Annual Conclave which got underway Wednesday (March 15) at the East Street Tabernacle under the theme: “Holding Steadfast Unto the End,” Prime Minister Minnis encouraged even more Bahamians to become involved in various ministries.
He said: “I heard the story of a woman who joined her church choir. She admitted she was not the best singer, but she joined because the choir needed members. She joined because she wanted to praise and worship the God who sustains her every day.
“She joined because she understood the words of St. Augustine who said: ‘He who sings, prays twice.’ She joined because she wanted to find a way of giving back to her church.
“I wish to encourage more Bahamians to become involved in various ministries and to make more bountiful the community harvest of talent which the church needs to sustain itself and which the church offers to our community.
“I thank the Church of God of Prophecy for your service to our country, including your many members who also serve our country in so many ways. I invite you, during this conclave, to celebrate all that is good in your midst and to thank God for the many blessings of this community of faith and fellowship,” Prime Minister Minnis said.
