Press statement by The Hon.C.V. Hope Strachan on the passing of Mrs Shandika Charlton, Chief Councillor, Mayaguana District:

I am shocked and extremely saddened to learn of the death of Mrs Shandika Charlton, Chief Councillor for The Mayaguana District. Mrs. Charlton who has served on the Mayaguana District Council since the year 2005, was one of the Local Government practitioners who was honoured for dedicated efforts toward the advancement of Local Government during the awards ceremony held this past Friday, 24th July, 2016 at Breezes Super Club in commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of The Establishment of Local Government in the Family Islands.

I am, along with the local government family, grateful for her stellar contributions to Local Government in the island of Mayaguana by way of her hard work and sacrifice.

On my own behalf and that of the Permanent Secretary, Director Of Local Government Family Island Administrators and all staff members of the Ministry Of Financial Services And Local Government, I extend my sincerest condolences to her husband Mr. Garvin Charlton, Her Daughter Ms. Deshontae Mckinney, Mother Ms. Creacetha Moss and other members of her immediate family and her extended family.

May her soul rest in peace.
