FREEPORT, Grand Bahama - Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Hubert Minnis said the best way for The Bahamas to resolve its social ill challenges is to have more Godly role models to strengthen the Bahamian family.  In his short address at a Father’s Day Thanksgiving service at Calvary Temple, Grand Bahama, Prime Minister Minnis thanked the men who have made an invaluable contribution to the building of The Bahamas and called for more to be done to produce more positive role models.

“The Bahamas, like many nations, continues to face social challenges and yes, we need more police officers, we need more resources, we need more jobs and we need more education and training, but we also need stronger families and stronger fathers,” said Prime Minister Minnis.

“Families are the foundation of our nation, and we need more Godly role models to strengthen the Bahamian family.

“We need more of our men to set good examples for our sons and daughters and to instill Christian values into all of our young people. Our children must be taught the values of integrity, honesty and hard work at home.”

The Prime Minister, while commending positive male role models, submitted that not all have walked the straight and narrow. He noted that over the years, The Bahamas has developed a culture where some men fail to accept their responsibilities as fathers. This, according to the Prime Minister, is one of the major ills of the Bahamian society, and therefore he asked all Bahamians, especially churches throughout the country, to assist his government in its quest to change this mindset among some Bahamian young men.

“I must also recognize and salute all those mothers who have had to fulfill both roles of mother and father. Help me to salute our strong Bahamian mothers,” added Prime Minister Minnis.  “These women have sacrificed and have had the responsibility of bringing up their children, and so we salute them for the work they [have done].”

The Prime Minister asked the church members of Calvary Temple and church members around the country to continue to pray for him and to continue to pray for members of his government as they work tirelessly to restore and revitalize Grand Bahama.

He also asked for continued prayer for the entire Bahamas.

“Allow me to leave you with this Biblical promise: ‘if my people who are called by my name would humble themselves and pray and seek my face, then will I hear from Heaven and I will heal their land.’

“On behalf of the Government of The Bahamas, I extend a Happy Father’s Day to all fathers throughout the country.”
