Prison Fellowship Bahamas Holds Graduation Service

Nassau, The Bahamas - To the theme, 'Life is a Journey, You Can Make It,' Prison Fellowship Bahamas held a graduation service at the Department of Corrections on Thursday for 73 inmates who were affirmed with the benefits of education and good discipline habits to assist them in becoming industrious, better citizens of The Bahamas.  Prison Fellowship Bahamas assists the Department of Corrections with reformation and rehabilitation initiatives.  Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Eugene Poitier (pictured at podium) said of Prison Fellowship Bahamas: "The Bahamas appreciates your labour of love and the sacrifices you make.  The Ministry is aware of the positive influence and contribution of your organization to help reduce inmates' recidivism and care for their children.  Your organization has been tested and tried and has continued to be your brothers' keepers for 37 years.  The Ministry salutes you for your perseverance and willingness to contribute to the greater good."  Looking on at left is Acting Commissioner of Correctional Services Bernadette M. Thompson-Murray.  Ms. Murray stated, "We are in our fourth year of transitioning from a punitive institution to a correctional service facility and all programmes are important.  As we in administration and the government transform our correctional system in The Bahamas, we will continue to partner with the church, community and organizations for the reformation and rehabilitation of all inmates, and a safer Bahamas."  (BIS Photo/Patrick Hanna)
