Nassau, Bahamas - The Public Treasury Department of The Bahamas along with a private sponsor will launch the Public Treasury Art Program (PTAP) this September. PTAP is an initiative which aims to recognize and encourage young Bahamian artists, to showcase outstanding local and regional art and to engender appreciation and commitment to the arts and art education in The Bahamas.

Since their recent move into a new five-storey complex on East Street North, Nassau Bahamas, The Public Treasury is poised to transform the common areas of the building into a space where both emerging and established artists can display original artwork.

On Monday 26th September 2011 an opening will be held at the Treasury’s Headquarters to launch PTAP with its Inaugural Exhibition entitled ‘Bahama Mama’. The exhibition is a celebration of Bahamian women that recognises and celebrates those who contribute to the arts and culture in The Bahamas. Participating artists were asked to produce works which investigate the historical, cultural, and social apects of our women.

A talented group of young female artists, photographers, designers, and writers living in The Bahamas will be exhibiting their work. The exhibition will run for 5 months.

PTAP invites the general public to attend the opening and support these women and their artistic work.
