West End, Grand Bahama - Minister for Public Works and Transport, the Hon Neko C Grant, said Wednesday that the Government would do all it can to bring timely service to the good people of The Bahamas regardless of where they work or live.
As he carried out an inspection of the newly renovated Government Administrative Building in West End, Grand Bahama Mr Grant said, “This is a capital city and ought to have all the conveniences befitting a city.”
The Government complex, which was closed since October of 2006, was recently renovated and re-opened.
Mr Grant explained that renovations were done to the roof, two bathrooms, kitchen area, lobby and the entrance.
Likewise, considerable efforts was made to secure the premises with new fencing, paved parking and total landscaping, including the removal of an old abandoned building at the rear of the facility.
The complex houses a Post Office with some 300-mail boxes, offices for the National Insurance Board, and the West End Local Government Township.
While in West End, the Public Works Minister also met with the senior vice president, Ginn Sur Mer, Mr Alton Jones who gave him updates on the cleanup and other developments for the settlement.
Mr Grant took the opportunity to also thank Ginn for its efforts in cleaning up the community.
He said the Government is concerned about some repairs that have to be made to the sea walls and it is the Government’s hope to have that completed before the hurricane season.
With regards to the partnership that the Government enjoys with Ginn, Mr Grant said, “We expect that from any investor that comes into our country. It is not a matter of taking, it is necessary to give back to the community in which you do business and we are pleased that Ginn seeks to do that.”
