Continuing its 100-year plus support of communities in the region, RBC is announcing a donation of $300,000 to several agencies following Hurricane Matthew, a category 4 hurricane, which had a catastrophic impact in The Bahamas, The Caribbean and The United States, earlier this month.

The allocation of funds is as follows: Globally, RBC Royal Bank has donated $50,000 to The Canadian Red Cross for The Bahamas and Haiti, $100,000 to The Bahamas Red Cross, $100,000 to The National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA) and $50,000 to The American Red Cross.

As a part of the $300,000 donation, today, The National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA), and The Bahamas Red Cross will each receive $100,000.00 toward restoration efforts.

According to Nathaniel Beneby, RBC Managing Director, The Bahamas, Cayman and Turks & Caicos Islands, “We are proud to support these organizations in their efforts to restore the community.” RBC is committed to doing what it can to support relief efforts and to help our communities successfully recover. Hurricane Matthew impacted each of us in different ways. However, Bahamians stand together as a resilient people, and together we will rebuild,” Mr. Beneby noted.
As the principal bankers of The Bahamas Government, RBC has also played a leading role in supporting the Government in raising funds as part of their restoration efforts due to Hurricane Matthew.

RBC has a history of stepping up in restoration efforts resulting from natural disasters. For example, in October 2015, RBC Royal Bank made a $50,000 donation to NEMA in aid of Hurricane Joaquin.

In addition to supporting human services causes, RBC makes significant charitable contributions in other key areas. For example, through the RBC Blue Water Project™, RBC globally committed more than $6.07 million to fresh water initiatives. In recent years, The Blue Water Project supported clean-up efforts of the Andros Blue Water Hole in The Bahamas. After the earthquake in Haiti, RBC also committed $1 million to support the efforts of ONE DROP and Oxfam to provide access to water and sanitation to the people of Haiti and rebuild small water and sanitation infrastructure in the country.

RBC encourages corporate Bahamas to continue to provide support as restoration efforts continue.

“We are committed to being active citizens, wherever we live and work,” concluded Mr. Beneby.  “Our goal for this donation, is to ensure that all affected, especially children would be restored with food, water, clothing, and a home that is a safe and structurally sound place to live.”
