RBDF Apprehends Migrants near Eleuthera

Haitian migrants after they were brought into the capital early Wednesday morning.

Coral Harbour Base, (RBDF): A total of 46 Haitian migrants were brought into the Defence Force Base early Wednesday morning after being apprehended by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on July 3, 2018.

While on routine patrol off South Eleuthera, HMBS Madeira, under the command of Senior Lieutenant William Sturrup, apprehended a conventional sailing vessel approximately 20 nautical miles south of Bannerman Town, South Eleuthera.

The migrants (38 males, 8 females) were taken into custody for illegally entering The Bahamas.  On arrival to the capital, they were turned over to Immigration officials for further processing.

Over 200 migrants have been apprehended by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force for the year, thus far.

The latest apprehension by a Defence Force patrol vessel was on March 28, when approximately 90 migrants were apprehended near Eleuthera by HMBS Cascarilla.
