The Office of the Prime Minister has issued a Request for Proposal for the completion of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) on the 83 acres identified for the Community for Young Professionals in Prospect Ridge.

“The EIA and EMP are to ensure that the development of the Community providesa considered level of protection of the environment and contribute to the integration of environmental considerations throughout the planning and development,” said Mrs. Viana Gardiner, Chair of the Committee for the Development of Communities for Young Professionals.

“They are also to ensure strict compliance with the Environmental Planning and Protection Act of The Bahamas.”

The Committee has met with all Government regulatory agencies responsible for decision making required for the initial stages of the development, including the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Environment and Housing, the Department of Environmental Planning and Protection, Department of Physical Planning and the Water and Sewerage Corporation.

The Request for Proposal may be obtained on the Government’s eProcurement and Supplier Registry Portal.  The timelines for submissions of proposals and the EIA and EMP are aggressive and will be strictly adhered to. Proposals are to be submitted to tendersboard@bahamas.gov.bs no later than 28th May 2021.

The investment by the Government in the development of the Community for Young Professionals will provide citizens with economic empowerment through land ownership and the opportunity to secure affordable housing.  It will also support the strengthening of the middle class in The Bahamas. It complements the Government’s other land initiatives of providing ready-to-build housing lots for low and middle-income families and the provision of land grants in the Family Islands.
