Recommissioning Ceremony Held for the Newly Renovated Rand Memorial Hospital

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – Describing the Recommissioning Ceremony of the newly renovated wards and departments of the Rand Memorial Hospital as a special milestone in the restoration of health services on the island, Minister of Health, the Hon. Renward Wells added that he could not be “more proud” of the staff in the delivery of their services.

The Public Hospitals Authority Grand Bahama Health Services held the Official Recommissioning Ceremony under the theme, “We Remember our Past, We Celebrate our Present, We Believe in our Future” on Friday, April 23.

The guest speaker for the event was Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance, the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert A. Minnis. Also present were: Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Hon. Michael Pintard; Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Darren Henfield; Minister of State for Finance and Grand Bahama, Sen. the Hon. Kwasi Thompson; Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness, Management and Reconstruction, the Hon. Pakesia Parker-Edgecombe; officials from the Grand Bahama Port Authority; senior government officials and a few invited guests.
Minister Wells said, “Those of us throughout the Bahamian health care sector will long remember the devotion to duty displayed by our colleagues in the Grand Bahama Health Services family. Your sacrificial service during the height of Hurricane Dorian and through the challenging weeks and months that followed have set a high standard that all of us in the health care sector should wish to emulate.”
He expressed pride in the work carried out by the Grand Bahama health care workers during and following Hurricane Dorian.

He said, “I could not be more proud of you and all that you have done collectively and individually to ensure the delivery of essential health care services to the people of Grand Bahama in the wake of one of the world’s most horrific natural disasters. 

“Your service reinforced the view that we are a nation of people with an indomitable spirit. I am proud to serve as your voice as the Minister of Health and I am proud to recognize your achievements in repairing and restoring this vital public hospital institution.”

The Health Minister said, “I say without equivocation, I believe in the future of the Rand Memorial Hospital, the Ministry of Health believes in the future of the Rand Memorial Hospital, and this government, through our Prime Minister, believes in the future of the Rand Memorial Hospital.”

Following the blessing, unveiling of the plaque and cutting of the ribbon, the delegation toured the Pharmacy, Lula Knowles Paediatrics Ward, Maternal and Child Health Block, Medical/Surgical Block, Critical Care Block, Operating Theatre, Chapel and the Healing Garden.

Other areas commissioned were the Reverse Osmosis System, Medical/Surgical Ward 3, and the Food Services Department.
